A denture ready the day your teeth come out
An immediate denture is made before your teeth are removed and placed at the same visit as your extractions, so you are never without teeth while you heal. If your remaining teeth need to be removed, an immediate denture means you do not have to face the world without teeth while your gums heal. It is planned in advance from records taken before the extractions, then placed the same day.
Because it is designed before extraction day, an immediate denture does three things at once:
- Planned in advance Impressions, bite records, and smile references are taken while you still have your teeth, so the look is designed before extraction day.
- Protects as you heal Placed the same visit your teeth are removed, the denture sits over the gums and supports the area while it settles.
- Adjusted while you settle As the gums reshape over the months that follow, relines keep the fit — finishing with a permanent reline or a final denture.
Planned before, placed the same day, refined as you heal
The order matters with immediate dentures — the work happens before your teeth come out, so the denture is ready on the day.

01
Plan before extractions
While you still have your teeth, we take impressions, bite records, and smile references and review your CDCP or insurance questions.
-
02
Denture crafted in advance
In our on-site lab, the denture is shaped and finished before your appointment so it is ready to wear the day your teeth are removed.
-
03
Insertion day
Your teeth are removed and the immediate denture is placed the same visit, so you leave with teeth and the gums are supported as they heal.
-
04
Healing relines & final result
Over the following months we reline and adjust as the gums settle, then complete with a permanent reline or a final denture.
The first 30 days
Some soreness and extra saliva are normal at first — your mouth is adjusting. Start with softer foods cut small, practise speaking out loud, and keep your follow-up visit: small adjustments are a normal part of the process, and a sore spot that lasts more than a few days is worth a quick call to your clinic.
An on-site lab keeps the timing tight
Immediate dentures depend on being ready on the day. Because our Ottawa lab is on-site, your denturist can prepare the denture in advance and handle the healing-phase relines without sending work away.
- Ready on time The denture is finished before your extraction appointment, not after.
- Relines done here Healing adjustments are made directly with the clinical team as your gums settle.
- Chair-to-lab continuity The person fitting you stays close to the bench work through every stage.

Yes. As the gums heal and reshape over the following months, the denture is relined and adjusted to keep the fit comfortable. Once healing settles, many patients complete treatment with a permanent reline or a final denture. Your denturist explains this plan before you begin.

Your denturist coordinates with the dentist or surgeon removing your teeth, and the immediate denture is placed the same visit. The denture also sits over the healing gums and helps protect the area as it settles.

Tooth shape, shade, and smile line are planned from references taken before your teeth are removed, so the look is designed in advance. The try-in stage for the final denture lets you review and refine the result once healing is complete.

Immediate dentures may be covered for eligible patients under the Canadian Dental Care Plan. We confirm your coverage before treatment begins and explain the estimate, including any healing-phase relines, before you decide.

A conventional denture is made after the gums have healed, which means a period without teeth. An immediate denture is placed right away so you are never without teeth, with relines and adjustments during healing and a final result once the gums settle.
