Fill the gaps without giving up your natural teeth
A partial denture is a removable appliance that fills the gaps left by missing teeth while your remaining natural teeth stay in place. A partial denture is for people who are missing some — but not all — of their teeth. It fits around the teeth you still have, replacing the missing ones so you can chew comfortably and smile with confidence.
Beyond filling the gap, a well-made partial does three things:
- Protects your natural teeth Filling the gaps helps keep your remaining teeth from drifting and supports an even bite.
- A secure, comfortable fit Clips onto your natural teeth so it stays put while you eat and speak, and lifts out easily to clean.
- A smile that blends in Tooth shade and discreet clasps are chosen so the partial blends with the teeth you keep.

Most patients are seen over several appointments: consultation, impressions and bite records, a try-in to check the fit around your natural teeth, then the final fit. Your denturist gives you a realistic timeline after seeing your mouth and the teeth being replaced.
-
Yes. The replacement teeth are matched to the shape and shade of the natural teeth you still have, and the clasps that hold the partial in place are positioned to stay discreet. The try-in appointment lets you review the look before the partial is finished.
-
Partial dentures may be covered for eligible patients under the Canadian Dental Care Plan. We confirm your coverage before treatment begins and explain the estimate before you decide.

Depending on the design, a tooth can sometimes be added to an existing partial. Bring it up at your consultation — our denturists can explain what your particular partial allows and how to plan ahead if more teeth may need to come out.
-
A loose denture does not always mean you need a brand-new one. Depending on the fit, age, wear, and bite, a reline, rebase, adjustment, or replacement may be discussed.
Learn about relines → -
Yes. Smiley can help you sort out whether your question is about partial dentures, relines, implant-retained dentures, CDCP, or booking an Ottawa consultation.
