What it is

CDCP, explained for our Perth & Lanark County patients

CDCP is a federal program that helps eligible Canadian residents without private dental insurance pay for dental care, including dentures. As of 2026 it’s open to eligible Canadians of any age — good news, since many of the people we see in Perth, Smiths Falls and around Lanark County are retirees on a fixed income who now qualify. Our Perth denture clinic, known for years as Sam Lima Denture Clinic before joining Smile Denture & Implant Clinic, makes checking your CDCP coverage the first step of every consultation. Eligibility

Who qualifies for CDCP in Perth

Four things determine eligibility, and if all four are true, you can likely put CDCP toward your dentures here in Perth. The fastest way to know for sure is the quick check below.

Canadian resident for tax purposes

You file taxes in Canada and are a resident here for tax purposes.

Filed your latest tax return

You — and your spouse or common-law partner, if applicable — filed last year’s return.

Adjusted family net income under $90,000

The amount CDCP reimburses steps down as income rises (see the table below).

No access to private dental insurance

CDCP is a coverage of last resort — it can’t be combined with employer, pension or spousal plans.

Five quick questions, about a minute — no email, no login, and nothing is saved. You’ll see your likely eligibility and coverage tier, then exactly how to apply.

Question 1 of 5

Are you a Canadian resident for tax purposes?

You file taxes in Canada and live here for tax purposes.

Have you filed your latest tax return?

You — and your spouse or common-law partner, if applicable — filed last year’s return.

What’s your adjusted family net income?

Line 23600 on your last tax return. Your CDCP coverage tier depends on this.

Do you have private dental insurance?

CDCP is a coverage of last resort — it can’t be combined with private insurance.

Here’s where you likely stand, based on your answers.

That percentage is of CDCP’s own fee guide — not a denturist’s fees. The difference between the two is a copay you pay directly. Depending on your situation, other programs may help cover part of it — we review your options and confirm any copay in writing before treatment.

Estimates use the 2026 CDCP fee guide. Actual eligibility and reimbursement are confirmed by Sun Life (the CDCP administrator) at the time of treatment. You can confirm any CDCP provider through Sun Life’s official provider search — or call us and our team will check for you.

How much CDCP pays

How much will the plan pay?

Good news first: for most eligible patients, CDCP covers the large majority of the cost — your share simply comes down to your family income. Here’s how the brackets break down; they match the checker above.

Adjusted family net income CDCP covers Your share
Under $70,000100%Only the small fee-guide difference
$70,000 – $79,99960%40% of the fee, plus the small difference
$80,000 – $89,99940%60% of the fee, plus the small difference
$90,000 and aboveNot eligibleCDCP doesn’t apply — ask us about the most affordable path.

“Family income” means your adjusted family net income — line 23600 on your tax return.

A quick note on the copay. CDCP pays out against its own fee guide, and that’s sometimes a little lower than a denturist’s fee — so there can be a small copay you’re responsible for, even at the 100% tier. We check your exact coverage and confirm any copay in writing before treatment starts, so nothing catches you by surprise at our Perth denture clinic.

How to apply

Applying for CDCP — three steps with Service Canada

Applications go through the Government of Canada, not our clinic — it takes roughly 10–15 minutes online, or you can apply by phone instead. Once you’re approved, Sun Life mails your CDCP member card, and you’re ready to book your consultation with us in Perth.

  1. Confirm you qualify

Not sure yet? Run through the quick check above, or read the four criteria straight from Canada.ca. You’ll want last year’s tax details and your Social Insurance Number close by.

  2. Apply online or by phone

Apply through Service Canada — online or by phone, whichever you prefer. Once you’re approved, you’ll receive your CDCP member card by mail from Sun Life, along with your coverage start date.

  3. Book in Perth & bring your card

Once your coverage is active, book a denture consultation at our Perth denture clinic — no referral needed. We’ll confirm your tier and bill CDCP directly.

What Service Canada will ask you for

This is for the government application only — our clinic never asks for your SIN or tax details.

  • Social Insurance Number — for each person applying
  • Last year’s tax return — your adjusted family net income comes from it
  • Date of birth & home address — for everyone on the application
  • After approval: Sun Life welcome letter — includes your CDCP member card; bring the card to your first visit

This link opens the Government of Canada’s official CDCP site in a new tab. We don’t collect or submit anything on your behalf — we’re simply here to help once your coverage is approved.

What’s covered

What the CDCP helps cover

CDCP pays toward a wide variety of dental treatment, well beyond just dentures. Here’s a look at what’s included — and as always, we’ll confirm your exact coverage and any copay in writing before any treatment begins.

Complete dentures

A full upper or lower set — or both — to replace an entire arch of missing teeth.

Partial dentures

Metal-framework or flexible partials that fill in several missing teeth while keeping your own healthy ones.

Relines & repairs

Tightening up a denture that’s gone loose, or fixing a crack — relines are covered once per year.

Tooth extractions

Taking out teeth that are beyond saving, which is often where the road to new dentures begins.

Fillings & restorations

Restoring teeth that have decay or other damage.

Exams, cleanings & X-rays

Routine check-ups, cleanings, and X-rays.

At our Perth denture clinic, it’s our own licensed denturists who handle your denture treatment and tooth extractions, right on site. For fillings, cleanings and other general dental care, your own dentist is the right call — we’re glad to help point you in the right direction.

How it works at our Perth clinic

From coverage check to new dentures

At our Perth denture clinic on Beckwith Street East — serving Smiths Falls and rural Lanark County too — we take the CDCP paperwork off your plate, so it’s one less thing to figure out on your own. Our denturist holds appointments here on Tuesdays and select Fridays; just ask our team to confirm a day that suits you. Here’s what the process looks like, start to finish.

1

Check coverage

Use the eligibility check or call our Perth clinic. We confirm your CDCP tier and what your dentures are likely to cost you.

2

Consultation

At a free consultation, a licensed denturist reviews your needs and recommends the right denture for you — no referral required.

3

Written estimate

You’ll get the plan in writing — CDCP billing codes and any remaining cost spelled out — before we start any work.

4

Treatment & direct billing

Your dentures are fitted here in Perth and crafted in our clinic’s own lab, and we bill CDCP directly, so you only settle whatever portion is left over.

Another coverage path

Injured on the job? WSIB may cover your dentures

Lost a tooth or damaged a denture in a workplace accident? The Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) is separate from CDCP and may cover your treatment. Here’s what to know.

A simple repair or reline can often go ahead without prior authorization; replacements need WSIB approval. The details are in the common questions below — and we handle the WSIB paperwork with you.

Not sure what applies to your situation? Bring it up at your consultation — our team will help you sort out CDCP, WSIB and private insurance together.
