What a Visit to Our Ottawa Denture Clinic Is Really Like

From finding the door to your written estimate, here's a plain, no-pressure walk-through of what happens when you come in to see us.

Walking into a denture clinic for the first time can feel like a big step, especially if you've never worked with a denturist before. At Smile Denture & Implant Clinic in Ottawa, we've tried to make that first visit as straightforward as possible — from finding the door to leaving with a plan you actually understand and time to think it over. If you're curious what actually happens once you're through the door, here's a plain walk-through of what a visit to our Ottawa clinic is really like.

Finding us

Our Ottawa clinic is at 1218 Rooney's Lane. It's an easy address to find whether you're driving yourself, getting a ride from family, or arriving by taxi or rideshare, and it's within reach of patients coming from across the city as well as Kanata, Nepean, Barrhaven, and Orléans. If mobility, transportation, or the layout of the building is a concern, mention it when you call to book — our team is happy to talk you through what to expect and answer practical questions before you arrive, so nothing about the visit itself feels like a surprise. And if another one of our clinics is closer to home, our locations page lists addresses and contact details for all four, so you can choose whichever is easiest to get to.

The first visit

Your first appointment is a free consultation, not a commitment. You'll sit down with one of our licensed denturists, talk through what's going on with your teeth or your current denture, and ask whatever questions you've been putting off — there's no clock running and no obligation to decide anything that day. You don't need a referral from a doctor to book, either: denturists are regulated health care professionals you can see directly, without going through a physician first. If you already wear a denture, bring it with you — how it's holding up is often part of that first conversation. And if you're still deciding whether now is even the right time, our guide to getting dentures in Ottawa is a good place to start before you come in.

What happens in the chair

During the consultation, your denturist examines your mouth, your gums, and any natural teeth you still have, then talks you through what they see in plain language, without any pressure to decide anything on the spot. From there, the conversation turns to options — that might mean complete dentures that replace a full arch, a partial that works around the teeth you're keeping, or an implant-retained denture secured by implants, depending on what's realistic for your mouth and your goals. The conversation is meant to be honest rather than rushed: your denturist will walk through what fits your situation and what doesn't. Nothing moves ahead on assumptions, either — before any treatment begins, you'll receive a written estimate, so you know exactly what's involved and what it covers before you commit to anything.

The on-site lab advantage

One thing that sets our Ottawa clinic apart is having design and crafting under one roof. Your denturist designs and fits your denture, and our on-site lab team crafts it to that design, so adjustments, questions, and revisions stay in the same building instead of travelling between a clinic and an outside lab. That can make the fitting stage feel less drawn-out, since a small adjustment doesn't mean waiting on a courier. It matters after your denture is finished, too: if it ever cracks, loosens, or needs a reline down the road, our repairs and relines team can often work on it right here, without shipping it elsewhere and leaving you without your denture in the meantime. It also means the same lab technicians tend to know your case over the years, rather than a new supplier starting from scratch each time.

Coverage handling

We know cost is often the first question, even before the clinical ones, and we'd rather deal with it plainly than leave you guessing. Our team direct-bills the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) for eligible treatment, so if you qualify, that part is handled for you rather than something you have to submit yourself. If you have private insurance instead, we prepare and submit the claim paperwork on your behalf, so you're not sorting through forms alone. Either way, the written estimate from your consultation spells out what's covered and what isn't before treatment starts. Our CDCP page walks through eligibility and how the coverage works in more detail.

Booking

Ready to see what a visit involves for yourself? Call our team at (613) 909-7979, or book a consultation online whenever it suits you — whichever is easier. Either way, you'll be talking with a person who can answer your questions and help find a time that works, before you ever set foot in the clinic.

A first visit is just a conversation. There's no pressure to decide anything on the spot, and no treatment starts until you've seen the plan and the estimate in writing — so you can take whatever time you need.
